Tchaikovsky's 1st Symphony
Even if we are not allowed to see each other in the Tonhalle Maag until further notice, we are still musically there for you.
Today, for example, with Tchaikovsky's 1st Symphony, recorded as part of our CD recordings in January 2021.
Shortly after Tchaikovsky took up his professorship at the newly founded Moscow Conservatory, he also began work on his first symphony: «Winter Dreams»? These were the nightmares that a composer who had slept through the night had to deal with from then on. «A sin of my fair youth» was Tchaikovsky's later verdict. What saw the light of day in the concert hall at the premiere, however, was inspiring. With its atmospherically orchestrated Adagio, the pressing finale and an orchestral waltz, the symphony already bears witness to Tchaikovsky's unmistakable personal style.
