Frank Peter Zimmermann plays Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.

38 years ago at the age of 18, the violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann made his debut with Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. For Zimmermann, this was a «great thing», as he remembers years later.

Now the Artist in Residence from 2013/14 returns to us with this violin concerto as mature musician. A showcased virtuosity is not Zimmermann's thing. He is concerned with the message, with truthfulness and authenticity. So he follows neither trends nor fashions. Of course, he perceives the developments of the past decades - and scrutinizes them critically. In the concert he takes a position, his sound has bite, is powerful and free of mannerisms.

In the second part of the concert, the 8th Symphony will be performed by Franz Schubert under the direction of Christoph von Dohnányi.
